J&K: Budgam Police file chargesheet in Indian Army soldier’s murder at Lokipora village

Budgam: The Budgam police on Monday produced a chargesheet in the murder of an Indian Army soldier by terrorists. As per reports, five people were named in the chargesheet for abducting and murdering the soldier at Lokipora village in Budgam’s Khag area.

Those named in the chargesheet are – Athar Illahi Sheikh, an overground worker of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Mohammad Yousuf Dar, Faisal Hafeez Dar, Hilal Ahmad Sheikh, and Foreign Terrorist Ghazi Bhai.

Notably, Sheikh is currently lodged in Kot Bilawal Jail, while Ghazi Bhai is a Lashkar terrorist who is currently absconding. The three other people named in the chargesheet were LeT terrorists who were killed by security forces.

The Indian Army soldier, Mohammad Sameer Malla, was killed in March this year. On March 7, 2022, Khag police station received a complaint about the missing of Malla. After three days, the soldier’s body was found buried in a ditch in the fields of the village Labran Khag.

An FIR was filed in the case in the Police Station Khag. During investigation, Sheikh was apprehended. Upon questioning, he admitted that he along with other four accused Malla and they tortured him which resulted in his death in an orchard of Labran village. The accused then buried the dead body of the victim in a ditch in nearby field.

The case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 364, 302,392, 201,149 and sections 16,18,19,20,38,39 of the ULA(P) Act. There was delay in filing chargesheet as the police had to obtain expert opinions from The Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Chandigarh.
