Higher education workshop drive concludes in Kargil

Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, Eklavya India Foundation in association with District Administration Kargil today concluded the 3-day higher education workshop drive at Auditorium Hall and GDC Kargil.

Earlier, the workshop was organized at Higher Secondary School Sankoo and GDC Drass which was participated by large number of students.

DC/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve, Joint Director Information Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho, CEO Kargil, Mushtaq Ahmad, Director University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, Dr Kaneez Fatima, Accounts Officer to DC Kargil, Shameen Ahmad, team of Eklavya India Foundation, besides other officials, teachers and a large number of students of 10th, 11th and 12th classes participated.

The workshop drive was aimed to create awareness among students in Kargil about higher education opportunities in India and encourage the admission of large number of students from remote areas in reputed universities outside Ladakh for better higher education.

On the occasion, DC Kargil said such initiatives are need of the hour. He urged the students to take benefit of such workshops.

DC Santosh informed that the District Administration and Eklavya Foundation would soon start Super 50 coaching classes for the students in the district.

DC Kargil said the main focus is to help students make informed career decisions and get them placed in reputed institutions of the world.

In his address, Joint Director Information Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho said that people should think beyond medicine, and engineering fields and explore other fields as well.

“Effective career counselling and guidance is the requirement for all round development of students,” he said.

While interacting with media, Accounts Officer to DC Kargil, Shameed Ahmad said the program was aimed to provide quality education, particularly to girls. He added that the Government of India and UT Administration has started the Gender Equality campaign in order to give space to them and take an active part in decision-making.

On the occasion, Mentors of Eklavya India Foundation including Raju Kendre its founder (Chevening Scholar, FCDO UK) and Rushikesh Ukirde (JNU) informed the students about scholarship programs and opportunities in higher education.

The students at the Auditorium Hall and GDC Kargil were informed about how to apply for scholarship opportunities in different fields in reputed universities in India and abroad.

The students actively participated in the interaction session and put forth their views. They also raised queries regarding different scholarships offered by top colleges and universities in India and abroad.

The students thanked District Administration Kargil and Eklavya India Foundation for organizing such a fruitful workshop drive which will immensely benefit the student community of the district.
