Bandipora, Dec 10: The District administration Bandipora has formally started Helicopter services from Bandipora to Gurez as the valley remains cut-off from the rest of the world during winters.
The service is started every year in winter months so that the people would not suffer in the winter due to the absence of a proper road transport system and ensure early evacuation of patients. The service provides a sigh of relief to those people who visit Gurez valley in winters and also for the locals from Gurez who travel to other districts of the valley for different purposes.
Gurez valley has limited medical facilities so people especially in winter months suffer a lot in case of any medical emergencies. Many patients including pregnant ladies migrate to Bandipora during winters to ensure better healthcare services.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owaid Ahmad said helicopter service has been started so that the pregnant ladies and the other serious medical emergency patients shifted taken on time for their treatment.
Due to the absence of proper road facilities, the patients are air lifted through helicopters so that they would be treated and the common people would not suffer.
Mostly, in winters Gurez valley remains cut off from the rest of the world due to heavy snowfall. The people have to face so many difficulties in the absence of basic facilities especially with regards to health. So the district administration bandipora has taken this appreciative step in order to provide relief to the locals of Gurez.
Talking to Kashmir Convener, DC Bandipora said they have started this service for the locals and the department has also provided helpline numbers in case of any medical emergency. “We want to ensure every possible effort to keep this service intact so that the locals do not suffer,” He said adding that the administration will try to keep the services open amid adverse weather conditions so that people will not suffer especially in case of any medical emergency.
