PIB Jaipur as part of UT level press tour visit Kargil district to study developmental works

Press Information Bureau (PIB), Jaipur as part of a week-long press tour to UT Ladakh on Monday visited Kargil district to study various developmental works and implementation of centrally sponsored and UT schemes in various villages.

Deputy Director PIB, Jaipur, Pawan Singh Faujdar, AE&CO DIPR Leh, Stanzin Wangmo, a group of 13 media persons and PIB official were part of the tour.

The team studied the developmental activities in the district post-formation of Union Territory, implementation of centrally sponsored schemes and UT schemes at various villages of Kargil.

They got first-hand information about the achievements of schemes like National Health Mission, Jal Jeevan Mission, National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan etc.

The team of journalists associated with various print and electronic media houses experienced the best practices followed by the UT Administration in the field of agriculture which has got recognition and the implementation of several other schemes.

During the visit to the newly constructed 300-bedded district hospital and Oxygen Plant at Kurbathang, the PIB team met the concerned officials and were apprised about the ongoing development works.

Incharge Nodal Officer, Dr Muhammad Abbas talked about various projects and their cost under mechanical, civil, and electrical departments and presented details of project cost.

The PIB officials and media persons also visited Ice Hockey Rink near airport, Astroturf Football Ground, Gallon Water Reservoir at Chay Chaythang. They also visited various villages of Kargil district.

They also visited drip irrigation Saliskote and high-density apple orchard Saliskote of Horticulture Department. Chief Horticulture Officer Ali Raza briefed them about a number of activities carried out in the apple orchard.

During the visit to Panchayat Ghar Sankoo, the Self Help Group (SHG) Sankoo showed the manufacturing of sanitary pads and its distribution at low cost. PIB official said this is completely a positive developmental activity and will help in women empowerment. The concerned VLW Jinnah detailed about sanitary pad manufacturing process.

The Deputy Director PIB appreciated the pace of ongoing developmental activities in Kargil district and also in the whole UT Ladakh.

Singh also said that the funds provided by Union Government for various schemes were effectively utilized by concerned departments of district Kargil. He thanked all the stakeholders of the tour and appreciated their support.

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan today attended the concluding ceremony of Dardic Premier League tournament 2022 organized by the Dardic Legions Shimsha at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium Biamathang.

Councilor for Shargole Consituency, Mohd Ali Chandan, President Humas Upliftment Drass, Mehraj Mushtaq, players and sports enthusiasts were present during the occasion.

In his address, the CEC congratulated the organizers for successful conduct of the tournament and expressed optimism that the step will go a long way in generating interest among the youngsters about cricket. Khan said LAHDC Kargil is committed to provide all necessary facilities to players to upgrade their skills.

He said a good number of works for construction of various sports related infrastructure is going on in full swing in the district for which adequate funds have been allocated under different schemes.

The CEC assured players and sports enthusiasts that people will witness drastic change in sports related infrastructure and facilities in near future which will prove instrumental in the promotion of sports culture besides also providing adequate platform to budding players to showcase and hone their sporting skills.

Pertaining to the improvement of infrastructure and other logistics of the stadium, Khan assured that dressing rooms for players and other provisions will be kept in the new pavilion which is under construction.

The final match was played between Dardic Legends Shimsha and New Era Legends wherein DLS Shimsha won over New Era Legend by 41 runs and lifted the trophy.

The winning team was rewarded with a trophy and cash prize of Rs 1 lakh while the runners up team received a trophy with cash prize of Rs 75,000.

Mohd Mashkur from DLS, Shimsha was declared man of the match and Mussa Khuddam man of the series for their role throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, the winner and runner-up teams were also felicitated with medals by the dignitaries. A total of 100 teams from different parts of the district participated in the tournament.

Secretary PDD, Agricultural, Animal, Sheep and Youth Services and Sports UT Ladakh Ravindar Kumar today chaired a meeting of officers of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Power and Youth Service and Sports at TRC Padum, Zanskar.

During the meeting, the secretary stressed the Agriculture Department to submit the requirements of labours and their wages for engaging to cultivate the farm and polycarbonate green houses.

He instructed the Sheep Husbandry Department to submit the projects for establishment of Pashmina goat farm and other requirement.

The livestock development officer informed that there is scope to open horse riding school in the sub division, as the horse of the region is famous and Equine Breeding farm is already established in Zanskar.

While reviewing the progress of the Youth Services and Sports Department, the secretary directed to complete all the remaining works of the Ice Hockey Rink and Sport Stadium and also construct public convenience around the stadium before Zanskar winter festival.

The meeting was also attended by SDM Zanskar Sonam Dorjay, OSD to Secretary Dr Stanzin Thekchos and Dr Tara Chand.

Earlier, the secretary also met Councilor Cha Constituency Stanzin Lakpa, General Secretary BJP Zanskar Tsering Angdus at TRC Padum and raised the various issues regarding transmission line, planning of winter festival and need of construction of changing room and public convenience at the program venue.

The secretary gave a patient hearing to the demands and assured to resolve the issues. He added that a UT-level meeting will be called for planning of the winter festival very shortly.

National Health Mission, UT Ladakh organised a two-day workshop-cum-review meeting for District and Block Program Management Units (PMUs) of Leh district regarding NHM programs implementation, financial and physical progress at Leh today.

In the workshop, all programs under NHM would be reviewed and the district and block officers would be given orientation on different programs.

During the workshop, BMOs of Leh district presented the progress and issues related to different programs.

Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, Dr Pawan Kotwal addressed the officers and gave directions for improving physical and financial progress for all the programs under NHM.

Dr Kotwal emphasised the need of infrastructure strengthening and internet connectivity for all H&WCs.

The fifth edition of the Indian Himalayan Youth Summit commenced in Leh today, The inaugural session was graced by the presence of LG Ladakh, R.K Mathur as the chief guest; Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson as the guest of honor, Dy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk; Executive Councillors, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, Stanzin Chosphel and Councillors, Principal Secretary Wildlife/Forest, Dr. Pawan Kotwal; PCCF/Chairman, SDF Ladakh, Jigmet Takpa; Secretary Transport, Suagat Biswas; DC Leh, Shrikant Suse; Vice President, Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI), Amba Jamir; Former CEC Leh/Member Governing Council IMI, Rigzin Spalbar, Administrative officers, District HoDs, and various youth delegates and entrepreneurs from across the mountain states and Union Territories including locals.

Terming the Himalayan regions as the most important ecologically as they determine the climate of the country and the world, LG Mathur stressed the need for youth taking part in the Summit to deliberate and record the outcomes of the event so that it could be heard and implemented at both regional and national levels. He emphasised the need to focus on quality tourism and spreading the benefit of tourist activities in all parts of a region rather than allowing it to concentrate in a few places. He emphasised the need to balance the environment, economy, and socio-cultural aspects to achieve sustainable tourism.

Presenting the keynote address, CEC Tashi Gyalson informed that the Summit is a platform for youth from Ladakh to interact with youth from other Himalayan states and UTs to discuss common issues and learn from each other. He stated that youth can make a lot of difference in coming up with possible solutions and drafting policies for the benefit of the people of the Himalayan regions.

Earlier, a Member of Governing Council, IMI, Rigzin Spalbar, presented an overview of IMI and the objective behind the Youth Summit in his welcome address whereas Namrata Neopaney from IMI informed about the journey of the Indian Himalayan Youth Summit since its first edition held at Kohima in the year 2013.

Later, LG Ladakh in the presence of CEC LAHDC Leh and all the other dignitaries launched E-Vehicles (EVs) during the occasion with an aim to promote carbon neutrality in Ladakh.

The day-long program had interactive technical sessions themed on sustainability, opportunities, challenges, and solutions for young entrepreneurs in the Indian Himalayan Region.

Horticulture Department organizes annual exhibition at Shilikchey, Director urges farmers to adopt modern techniques for better yield Fruit growers showcase 540 different fruit varieties.

Horticulture Department Kargil today organized the annual exhibition 2022-2023 under the chairmanship of Director Horticulture, UT Ladakh, Muhammad Yousuf Dar, at Shilikchey village where fruit growers showcased 540 different fruit varieties in stalls.

On the occasion, the director said that cultivating practices in horticulture should be in line with the changing trends and demands adding that fruit growers need to be updated with better processing, packaging and marketing procedures so that they improve their economy.

Dar also said that exhibition of different varieties will be a sample for other farmers so that they can also move on the same path to improve the quality of their fruits.

The director horticulture stressed farmers to coordinate with the department in order to get benefits of the different schemes of the department. He talked about many varieties present at the exhibition like apricot, apple, sea buckthorn etc.

While talking about sea buckthorn, Dar said, its cultivation is still in wild form and they are trying to scientifically make orchards for this particular variety. He said the department is trying to make it next apricot. The director stressed on farmers to grow quality fruits and assured them all type of support from the department.

Chief Horticulture Officer, Ali Raza, Assistant Professor KVK, Dr Nasreen Fatima, BDC Sodh, Zakir Hussain, Vice President Youth Development Council, Shilikchey Muhammad Ali. Dr Nasreen stressed on organic, vermicompost fertilizer for healthy cultivation and to save the environment.

The CHO also stressed on farmers to use government schemes properly and get benefitted from them. He appealed farmers to coordinate with the department to get the benefits of the welfare schemes.

Earlier, farmers, heads of the village and people from the adjoining areas forwarded their demands to the Director Horticulture. He gave a patient hearing to the issues and assured all type of support from the department.

Officials informed that the exhibition was attended by 200 fruit growers. The fruit growers showcased 540 different fruit varieties in the exhibition in stalls which include sea buckthorn, mulberry, walnut kernels, almond, different varieties of apricots, apples, pear etc.

Different kinds of horticulture-related machines and tool kits were showcased during the exhibition like irrigation pumps, power tillers, solar insect light traps etc.

An expert committee from KVK and allied departments judged the exhibition and categorised the awards among the apple growers.

The director and other dignitaries also distributed prizes among progressive farmers and to those farmers who had exhibited their locally grown fruits during the annual exhibition.

The Supreme Court Collegium have recommended Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey to be the new Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court.

The apex court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India U U Lalit also recommended transfer of incumbent Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal to the High Court of Rajasthan.

Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey was born on 8th December, 1960 in Village Wattoo, Tehsil Damhal Hanjipora, District Kulgam of south Kashmir.

He received school education in native village and did his Graduation and LL.B (Hon’s) from the University of Kashmir. He was enrolled as Advocate in the year 1984 and started practicing law in the District courts, including Revenue Courts/Tribunals; simultaneously started conducting matters in the High Court. Justice Magrey remained as standing counsel from 1986 onwards for the State Financial Corporation, Jammu & Kashmir Bank and SIDCO, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Power Development Department, Service Selection Board, Jammu & Kashmir Wakf Board.

Justice Magrey was appointed as Additional Advocate General in February 2003 with allocation for General Administration Department, Health and Medical Education Department, Service Selection Board, State Public Service Commission, Estates Department, SKIMS and Vigilance Department.

He was appointed as Senior Additional Advocate General in September 2009 with additional charge of Home Department and appeared and conducted important criminal, Division Bench and Full Bench matters involving important questions of law, on behalf of the State in the High Court as also in numerous appeals in the Supreme Court of India.

Justice Magrey also appeared and conducted important Public Interest Litigation matters, constitutional matters, Service matters, Tax matters, Civil matters involving high stakes and important issues, Arbitration matters. Justice Magrey appeared in commissions of inquiry also on behalf of State of J&K etc before being appointed as Permanent Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on 7th March, 2013 and took oath of office next day. In a major achievement the work on Zojila Tunnel project on the Srinagar-Leh highway is going on a faster pace. Work on connecting Kashmir with Ladakh is going ahead that the deadline set which is a major achievement.

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd’s project being executed by the Hyderabad based Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) which intends to ensure connectivity between Srinagar and Ladakh all the year around.

Senior Project Engineer MEIL, Burhan Andrabi told Greater Kashmir that the good pace of work on the Zojila Tunnel project continues and it was evident from the fact that 4-km tunnelling work from both Ladakh and Kashmir ends had been completed in a record time.

Andrabi said that everyone in the team from the project head to a labourer is involved in it and determined to complete the tunnel ahead of the deadline set. He further informed that the work on the Zojila tunnel was on a fast pace with Nilgar 1 Tunnel ready while laning of Nilgrar 2 Tunnel had commenced.

According to official sources, the Zojila Tunnel project involves the construction of a 14.15-km-long tunnel at an altitude of about 3000 metres under Zojila Pass (currently motorable only for eight months a year) on the NH-1 connecting Srinagar and Leh through Drass and Kargil. The Zojila Tunnel will be a two-lane highway. It would be 9.5-meter wide and 7.57-meter high in the shape of a horseshoe.

The New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), an advanced technology, was used in construction.

Leh: The Congress on Saturday retained Timisgam seat in the BJP-led Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), with its candidate defeating the BJP candidate by 273 votes in the by-election, officials said.

Congress candidate Tashi Tundup won the by-election for 22-Timisgam constituency, by polling 861 votes against 588 polled by the BJP’s Dorjay Namgyal, they said.

Senior Congress member Jairam Ramesh congratulated the Congress committee in Ladakh and also took a dig at the BJP’s central leadership and Ghulam Nabi Azad, who quit the grand old party recently.
“Here is some breaking news for Modi, Shah and Azad. The Congress party has defeated the BJP by a convincing margin in the Temisgam bye-election to the Ladakh Hill Council. Congratulations to the Ladakh District Congress Committee!,” he said on Twitter.

The by-election in the constituency was necessitated following the death of sitting Congress councillor Sonam Dorjey.

The voting, held on September 13, saw 98.7 per cent polling, the officials said, adding, the counting of votes started this morning and 1,449 votes of the total 1,467 votes polled were considered.
Fourteen voters had opted for NOTA and four votes were rejected.

In October 2020, the BJP had retained power by winning the election to the 26-member LAHDC by bagging 15 seats. The Congress had won nine seats, and two seats were bagged by Independent candidates.
