Jammu:Union minister Jitendra Singh on Friday said efforts are afoot to set up a Tata memorial cancer institute in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

This was conveyed by the minister while chairing a district development coordination and monitoring committee (DISHA) meeting in Kathua to review progress on various centrally-sponsored schemes (CSS) being implemented in the district, an official statement said.

The minister directed officials to identify and procure land for establishing a unit of Tata memorial cancer institute in Kathua.

He said the hospital will provide much needed relief to the patients of the region battling against the deadly disease.

About the status of Arun Jaitley International sports stadium coming up at Hiranagar, the Kathua deputy commissioner told the meeting that the architectural drawing of the project has been prepared and sent for approval to the authorities concerned, the statement said.

The minister was also informed that the first phase of the much-anticipated Shahpur Kandi Project will be completed by December 2022, while work on the Ujh multipurpose project will be started soon, it said.

Singh said a multi-facility tourist village at the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir in Lakhanpur will be established for giving a pleasant and memorable experience to the tourists arriving in J&K.

Srinagar: Amid the panic that hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases have been reported among children, Director Health Services Kashmir Mushtaq Ahmad Rather said that there is nothing to worry and the viral infection is common and does not need any treatment.

Talking to reporters at PHC Chanapora after taking part in an event related to international day of older persons, he said that the department has already issued advisory on HFMD popularly known as tomato flu as blisters and rashes are like tomatoes.

He asked people to follow advisory in letter and spirit.

Rather said that it is a mild disease and all cases reported so far have been isolated and surveillance units have been alerted to keep close vigil on it.

“But we are alert and ready to deal with any situation,” he added.

Meanwhile Director School Education Kashmir Tasaduq Hussian said that they have already issued instructions that students with HFMD symptoms should be isolated at the earliest.

“This is not so dangerous or alarming and we have to fight these things. Parents must keep children with HFMD symptoms at home for a few days and there is no need to panic,” he said.

New Delhi:India saw a single day rise of 3,805 new coronavirus infections, taking India’s tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,45,91,112, while the active cases declined to 38,293, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.

The death toll climbed to 5,28,655 with 26 fatalities, which include 13 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

Of the 13 fresh fatalities, five were reported from Maharashtra and two from Kerala.

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir reported 12 fresh covid-19 cases even as there was no death due to the virus during the last 24 hours, officials said on Friday.

They said four cases were reported from Jammu division and eight from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall tally to 479149. Among the cases, 173985 are from Jammu division and 305164 from Kashmir Valley.

Giving district wise details, they said, Jammu reported 3, Rajouri 1, Srinagar 4, Baramulla 1 and Kulgam 2.
There was no death due to the virus during the time. So far 4785 people have succumbed to the virus and among them include 2352 from Jammu division and 2433 from the Valley.

Besides, they said, 25 Covid-19 patients recovered during the last 24 hours—five from Jammu division and 20 from Kashmir Valley. There are now 123 active cases— 49 in Jammu and 74 in Kashmir.

The officials said there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today. So far 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in J&K, the officials said. Also 2030 doses of covid vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours, they added. (GNS)

New Delhi: With 4,858 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,45,39,046, while the active cases increased to 48,027, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The death toll has climbed to 5,28,355 with 18 fatalities, which includes eight deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.11 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.71 per cent, the health ministry said.

An increase of 105 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, it said.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.76 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate was at 1.78 per cent, according to the health ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,39,62,664, while the case fatality rate was 1.19 per cent.

According to the ministry, 216.70 crore doses of vaccines have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

LKG, UKG Classes Too Shut In Puducherry Following Increase In Flu Cases

Puducherry: Following the closure of schools for students studying from classes 1 to 8 after a rise in flu-like illness among children, the Puducherry government on Saturday announced that classes will also be closed for LKG and UKG, reports the news agency PTI. The Health Department of Puducherry has opened dedicated clinics in all hospitals and primary health centres to treat children for flu-like fever cases.

A spokesperson of the Health Department had told the news agency PTI on Friday that in view of the ‘sharp rise’ in number of children turning up for fever, cold and cough, the hospitals have intensified treatments.

Private clinics across Puducherry were also receiving cases of influenza for some days now. The Health Department’s recommendation to the government to close schools to prevent the spread of the flu-like fever has been conceded by the administration.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy and Home Minister A Namassivayam in charge of Education have given their nod to the Education Directorate’s decision taken in the wake of the Health Department’s recommendation to declare holiday for LKG, UKG, and also for classes I to VIII from Saturday till September 25, 2022. All government-run schools and private institutions have shut the classes as a precautionary measure, a spokesperson of the Education Department added.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 31 fresh covid-19 cases while there was no death due to the virus during the last 24 hours, officials said on Saturday.

They said that 12 cases were reported from Jammu division and 19 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall tally to 478925. Among the cases, 173919 are from Jammu division and 305006 from Kashmir Valley.

Providing district wise details of the cases, they said, Jammu reported 7 cases, Udhampur 2, Rajouri 0, Doda 1, Kathua 1, Samba 0, Kishtwar 0, Poonch 0, Ramban 1, Reasi 0, Srinagar 11, Baramulla 2, Budgam 3, Pulwama 2, Kupwara 0, Anantnag 0, Bandipora 0, Ganderbal 0, Kulgam 1 and Shopian 0.

There was no death due to the virus during the time. So far 4784 people have succumbed to the virus and among them include 2351 from Jammu division and 2433 from the Valley.

Besides, they said, 51 Covid-19 patients recovered during the last 24 hours—20 from Jammu division and 31 from Kashmir Valley. There are now 229 active cases— 104 in Jammu and 125 in Kashmir.

The officials said there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today. So far 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in J&K, the officials said. Also 8675 doses of covid vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours, they added.

SHOPIAN: As part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ campaign of the government, a number of programmes against drug addiction were held across Shopian today to make participants aware about substance abuse and way to get rid of this menace and its total eradication from society.

Speakers deliberated on the drug abuse and highlighted the need of taking preventive measures to eradicate the menace of drug addiction and other social evils in the district. The participants were asked to play a pro-active role in eradicating drugs from society and not to indulge in drug abuse.
The participants pledged to make the Shopian district free from drugs with the active support of District Administration, Police and Civil society.

The programmes witnessed overwhelming participation of teachers, students, staff and senior citizens who took pledge to fight against drug menace to eradicate it forever.

The Pledge taking ceremonies against drug menace were held in various educational zones of the district in which teachers, staff and students of various educational institutions took part. The participants also raised slogans against drug menace and conveyed upon the concerned to take concrete measures against the ever-increasing drug abuse and also to raise awareness against drug abuse.

The aim of the programme was to spread awareness amongst the people in general and youth in particular to take necessary steps for curbing the drug abuse.

The death toll climbed to 5,28,273 with 23 fatalities which includes four deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 2.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 98.71 per cent, the ministry said.

An increase of 359 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.89 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 1.70 per cent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,39,47,756, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.

According to the ministry, 216.17 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
